Expert Witness

Providing valuable expert witness evidence

Owners of a former RAF camp were using some of their 90 buildings for training, storage and office purposes.  They had received an enforcement notice from the local Council requiring them to stop using the buildings for “unauthorised” purposes.  The owners felt that unrealistic development options were being imposed on them.  They asked us to appear as an expert witness and to provide evidence on their behalf at a public inquiry, which lasted for five days. Our input resulted in the Inspector recommending that a realistic strategy should be formulated between our clients and the Council so that a beneficial development could be achieved for all concerned.

What we did

  • Looked carefully at current use and matched this use with regulatory requirements
  • Prepared planning evidence and appeared as an expert witness on the client’s behalf
  • Presented a clear argument to the Inspector in the case
  • Achieved a resolution that was commended to the Council
