Affordable Housing

Gaining planning permission for affordable housing

An almshouse charity in Hounslow proposed redeveloping 12 outdated flats into 20 units of affordable housing. After the initial concept was harshly criticised by the Council’s planners, we were asked to advise the project team on amending their initial proposals so that they could obtain planning permission. We led negotiations with the planners and other relevant council departments at the pre-application stage, prepared the planning application and monitored its progress throughout. Planning permission was granted and the development opened in April 2012 providing much needed quality affordable housing to Hounslow residents.

What we did

  • Carried out planning appraisal of site and the rejected scheme
  • Developed strategy for clients to achieve objectives
  • Advised on an amended development proposal
  • Led negotiations with planning, conservation and housing departments
  • Ensured that everything was in place for planning permission to be granted
